Great Bend's baseball team failed to score a run in 12 innings on Senior Night against state-ranked 6A powerhouse Manhattan.

Manhattan's dominant pitching shut out the Great Bend Panthers 6-0 and 12-0 in Wednesday's baseball doubleheader at the Great Bend Sports Complex. Manhattan (16-1) owns the best western record in 6A.

The Panthers (11-9) enter 5A postseason play with five losses in their last six games. Arkansas City (10-8) currently owns the sixth seed in the 5A West baseball seedings and plays Andover Thursday. Great Bend (11-9), Newton (11-9), Hays High (11-9) and Salina South (11-9) are tied for seventh. Great Bend would currently earn the No. 7 seed with a 6.5 to 5-run differential and is projected to play No. 10 Salina South.

MANHATTAN 6, PANTHERS 0 (G1) — Great Bend pitcher Hunter Herrman (2-3) kept the Panthers within 1-0 through four innings when the Indians scored three runs with two out. Ian Luce drilled a 2-run triple after an earlier RBI. Kyler Horsman doubled home Luce for a 4-0 lead. Two Indians scored after a hit-by-pitch and a third scored after a walk.

Jaxson Bowles homered in the sixth inning. Horsman scored on Tate Hoover's seventh-inning single.

Horsman (6-0) struck out seven batters with a 3-hit shutout. Panther Koehn Ribordy singled twice and Edwin Chavez singled. Manhattan second baseman Keenan Schartz started a 4-6-3 double play on a Carson Umphres groundball.

MANHATTAN 12, PANTHERS 0 (G1) — Manhattan converted seven walks, two hit batters and three wild pitches into a 12-run nightcap. Horsman delivered three hits and four runs batted home. Luce and Isaac Bluemel each drove home two runs.

Ribordy stayed hot with a third single. J.J. Grove and Trenton Kern added singles. Great Bend pitcher Carson Umphres (4-3) struggled with his command with five walks and three wild pitches.
