McPHERSON— A two run seventh was all the Great Bend Chiefs could muster after falling behind early as McPherson collected a 6-3 victory over the Chiefs Thursday.
The win improves McPherson to 19-10 on the season while the Chiefs fall to 23-19. Great Bend will face Emporia at 1:00 p.m. today while McPherson is scheduled to play Ottawa at 5:00 p.m. Ottawa defeated Wichita on Thursday 7-6 in a game that ended on a walk off bases loaded hit by pitch.
McPherson struck early against the Chiefs as Cody Starkel’s two-run homer scored Caleb Schmidt and put the home team up 2-0.
Great Bend responded in their half of the second as Bryce Lytle singled Jared Maneth across with McPherson leading by a narrow 2-1 margin.
McPherson went to the bottom of the order in the second as Miky Saverino and Jack Reitscheider scored on a triple by Marcus McDaniel.
After a silent third inning, McPherson’s Griffin Meyer scored on a single by McDaniel which pulled McPherson ahead leading the Chiefs 5-1 after four complete.
McPherson scored their final run of the game when Jacob Hoover scored on a failed pick off attempt.
Great Bend notched their final two runs in the their final at bat as Payton Mauler doubled in Braeden Smith and Matt Zecha.
