Oiler girls lose showdown to Little River

LITTLE RIVER GIRLS 67, CENTRAL PLAINS 56 – No. 1 ranked Little River girls knocked off No. 2 ranked Central Plains 67-56 in a preview of next week’s Division 1 basketball substate at Little River. Little River’s Alaina Eck was spectacular with 35 points to outscore Central Plains Oiler Brynna Hammeke, who scored 32 points.

Eck got plenty of offensive help as her teammate chipped in 32 points. 

Little River (19-1) is the top Little River seed. Eight-time reigning state champion Central Plains (16-4) is seeded third behind Pretty Prairie. The Oilers play Macksville (11-9) Thursday riding a state record 52-game postseason winning streak.

LITTLE RIVER 59, CENTRAL PLAINS 30 – Peyton Ryan scored 13 points, but Central Plains was outscored 59-30 in Tuesday's non-league basketball game to Little River.

The Redskins converted 11 3-pointers as Braxton Lafferty (19), Kayston Cox (14) and Rylan Konen (11) scored in double figures.

HOISINGTON 43, HILLSBORO 42 – Hoisington’s Tony Moore converted the game-winning basket as the Cardinals surprised 2-time defending 2A state champion Hillsboro in Tuesday’s Central Kansas League showdown. Hoisington (11-9, 6-3 CKL) won its fifth consecutive basketball game to head into the Russell basketball substate against Beloit.

Leyton Haxton (11) and Chase Steinert (10) scored in double figures and Moore added eight points. Haxton contributed six rebounds and four assists.

Hillsboro all-stater Brekyn Ratzlaff scored 30 points and gave the Trojans a 42-41 lead with two free throws. But Moore found a way to knock down the game-winner.

“That’s unbelievable the fight we had,” said Hoisington coach Kyle Haxton. “We’re playing our best basketball of the season. I’m proud of our guys.”

KIOWA COUNTY 59, PAWNEE HEIGHTS 46 –  Pawnee Heights Tiger Alec Carlson was on fire with 31 points, but Kiowa County’s Brady Deterding and Jeremiah Thompson each scored 20 points as Kiowa County (9-12) hustled past the Tigers 59-46 in Tuesday’s Southern Plains Iroquois League basketball game.

Davin Hamby added nine points for the Tigers (14-6), who compete in the Ransom 1A Division 2 substate.
