CENTRAL PLAINS GIRLS 35, CANTON-GALVA 16 – Central Plains seniors Addy Ogle, Taylor Sheehy, and Melissa Donecker celebrated Senior Night with a 35-16 non-league basketball victory over Canton-Galva.
Oiler Grace Lamatsch and Canton-Galva’s Malia Hoppes started with a 3-point contest. Lamatsch with a triple, followed by a Hoppes 3-pointer. Lamatsch drained her second 3-pointer, and Hoppes answered with another triple.
After the first quarter, the Oilers played lock-down defense. The Eagles made 1 of 26 field goals (4%) after an 8-point first quarter. After Malia Hoppes made her first two 3-pointers, the Eagles converted 1 of 24 on 3-pointers. Malia Hoppes scored eight points. The Eagles made 1 of 10 on 2-pointers.
Kylie Kempke sparked the Oilers with a season-high 14 points and Grace Lamatsch added 10 points in a 35-16 The Eagles' tandem of Malia Hoppes and Reagan Hawkinson slowed Marilyn Soeken to nine points with aggressive defense. Soeken responded by dishing out several nifty assists.

CENTRAL PLAINS 56, CANTON-GALVA 37 – Peyton Ryan stayed on fire with 16 points and Brodie Crites added 15 points as the Oilers powered past Canton-Galva 56-37 in Thursday's non-league basketball game. Aiden Hekele added 10 points. The Oilers (14-4) led 16-0 after a perfect defensive first quarter.
Oiler seniors Peyton Ryan, Hunter Klima, Connor Fries and manager Lauren Oeser were honored.
Canton-Galva's Wyatt Collins scored 13 points.
Similar to what Pat Stiles emphasized, Oiler boys head coach Michael Ryan said, “We love to see the seniors get a win on Senior Night. There’s so much time and effort that goes into this game. Seeing that hard work payoff is very rewarding.”
