CLAFLIN – Returning state doubles qualifier Ryann Metro/Grace Lamatsch (20-12) at No. 1 doubles. Metro/Lamatsch finished 2-2 at state, posting wins over Colby’s Lexie Schroeder/Kennedy McCauley 8-6 and Hesston Jaiden Callahan/Caroline Yoder 3-6, 6-4 (10-7) and losing to Osborne’s Gracie Riner/Leavie Riner 6-1, 4-6 (10-6) and Marysville’s Kate Frese/Aubree Vering.
“Ryann and Grace know what to expect at a state tournament,” said Central Plains tennis coach Amy Metro. “Since they’ve competed at state, it will give them confidence leading up to regionals and state. They’ve been working on their strengths and weaknesses. We’re seeing improvements and this work will take them farther this year.”
Other returning players are Charlee Schlessiger (8-15), who will vie for singles spot. Kylie Kempke (9-15) and Mackenzie Foulger (10-18) figure to contribute.
“The girls have worked hard all summer and spent a lot of time on the courts,” Metro said. “We’re working on finding our strongest lineup.
Since we’re a younger team, we are focusing on taking one practice and meet at a time. We’ll continue to get better each day.”
