Cardinals’ Nixon sparks sweep

HOISINGTON – Hoisington/Central Plains Oiler pitcher Kassidy Nixon threw a no-hitter and homered to spark the Cardinals to a Central Kansas League softball doubleheader sweep over Larned 15-0 and 11-0 Friday. The Cardinals (15-1, 13-1 CKL) own first place in the Central Kansas League.

CARDINALS 15, INDIANS 0 (G1) – Nixon (9-0) struck out eight batters. Nixon hit a first-inning homer.

Kadence Urban drove home three runs and drove in the first run in an 8-run first inning. Kashlin Beck hit a 2-run second-inning homer. Addyson Ogle ripped a pair of RBI singles.

CARDINALS 11, INDIANS 0 (G2) – Pitcher Jordyn Boxberger (6-1) threw a 2-hit shutout with five strikeouts. Kiana Meyer singled twice for Larned (1-13, 1-13 CKL).

Urban started a run-rule victory with a 2-run first inning double. Urban, Nixon, Boxberger, Mollie Steiner, Beck, Ogle and Gracie Aylward delivered RBIs in a 9-run fourth inning. Beck and Ogle scored on passed balls.
