Oilers roll into state semifinals

HOXIE – Hoxie stopped Central Plains' state-record shutout streak with a touchdown. But the Oilers dominated the Indians 54-6 in Friday's 8-man Division 1 semifinals after yielding a touchdown for the first time in nine games. The Oilers (11-0) qualify for a home playoff semifinal game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday against St. Francis (11-0).

Oiler tailback Lawson Oeser enjoyed a career night with five touchdowns and 267 yards rushing. Oeser scored on runs of 1, 4, 11, 39 and 45 yards behind blocking by fullback Jerred Bieberle, center Kealy Burris, guards Mason Doll and Brett Liebl and ends Devin Ryan and Grant Heldstab. Mason Wimmer added a pair of 1-yard scoring dives. Quarterback Myles Menges completed an 8-yard touchdown pass to Jerred Bieberle to start the Oilers' scoring. Central Plains rushed for 294 yards and added 95 yards passing in 15-degree weather.

Myles Menges intercepted a pass and the Oilers recovered four fumbles. Oeser, Bieberle, Heldstab and Doll recovered fumbles and Alex Hickel and Brett Liebl forced fumbles. Doll recorded 17 tackles, three for losses.
