The Central Plains Oiler boys capture the Russell Amos Morris basketball championship with a 61-42 victory over Beloit St. John's Saturday at Russell.

CENTRAL PLAINS 61, BELOIT ST. JOHN'S 42 (1ST PLACE) —  Central Plains Oiler Brodie Crites outdid his teammate with a career-best 36-point outing one game after Camden Stiles scored 33 points in a 61-42 victory Saturday over Beloit St. John's that captured the Russell Amos Morris basketball championship. 

The Oilers (8-0) outscored the Blujays 32-13 after a 19-19 halftime tie with lockdown defense. The Oilers play 2A powerhouse defending state champion Sterling (9-0) Tuesday at Claflin.

Bluejay Gabriel Roderick scored 16 points and Edward Horinek added 13 points. 

The title game was played four weeks after being postponed Dec. 13.

CENTRAL PLAINS GIRLS 46, SYLVAN/LUCAS 33 (3RD PLACE) — The Central Plains downed Sylvan/Lucas 46-33 to caoture third place at the Russell Amos Morris basketball tournament.

Oiler Aevyn Siemsen scored 15 points and Izzy Hurley added 13 points. The Oilers (5-3) converted seven 3-pointers. Dominique Davidson scored 14 points to pace the Mustangs. 

The Ellsworth girls downed Beloit St. John's 58-45 in the championship game.
