Oilers sweep 1A Division 1 honors
CLAFLIN — Central Plains coach Lisa Crites was selected as 1A Division 1 Coach of the Year and junior middle blocker/setter Kassidy Nixon was named 1A Division 1 Player of the Year by the Kansas Volleyball Association. The Oilers downed Lebo 26-24, 25-23 to capture back-to-back state volleyball championships.
Nixon blasted the match-winning point against the Wolves. Earlier, the Oilers (32-11) fought through a pair of hard-fought three-set matches. Nixon led the Oilers' crisp hitting with 87 winners and a .400 hitting percentage in five matches. Libero Callie Zink played at the top of her game with 74 digs and 81 serves received.
Central Plains senior middle blocker Ryenne Cunningham and St. John junior middle blocker Darby Smith earned first-team 1A Division 1 all-state honors.
Earning second-team 1A Division 1 all-state honors are St. John junior setter Payton Meyer and Central Plains senior outside hitter lexi Oeser.
Ellinwood senior outside hitter/setter Mya Maxwell earned second team 2A all-state honors.
