ST. JOHN – St. John’s crafty coach Danny Smith always has a well-prepared game plan for Central Plains. The Tigers led No. 1 ranked Central Plains 6-3 after one quarter, but the Oilers emerged with a hard-fought 39-30 Central Prairie League basketball victory.
Brynna Hammeke led the Oilers (4-1) with 15 points and Lexi Oeser hit a trio of 3-pointers. The Oilers converted five 3-pointers.
St. John’s Darby Smith dazzled with a game high 21 points and Kaylynn Claussen added four points.

ST. JOHN – Uriel Calleros scored 16 points and Elijah Delp scored 14 points with nine rebounds as St. John's boys held off Central Plains 48-41 in Tuesday's Central Prairie League basketball game. The Tigers outscored the Oilers 18-7 in the decisive third period.
Michael Laymon scored 19 points and had three steals for the Oilers, who converted 8 of 29 free throws. Tyler Holmes contributed 10 rebounds and seven points. The Oilers outscored the Tigers 15-6 from 3-point range.
