A four-run deficit for Great Bend’s baseball team? – no problem at windswept Great Bend Sports Complex.
Calan Haberman delivered a bases-loaded triple to ignite a six-run rally as the Panthers raced past Dodge City 13-7 in Friday’s Western Athletic Conference baseball game.
Dodge City rolled to 3-0 and 7-4 leads before the Panthers restored order with nine consecutive runs fueled by a friendly 25 mph south wind.
Great Bend (7-7, 4-4 WAC) heads to Hays next weekend for four games at the Diamond Classic while Dodge City (9-6, 1-6 WAC) drops into last place.
Dodge City’s Alden Knedler tripled home Cody Ibarra, Noah Sowers doubled home Knedler and Erubiel Duron singled home Sowers for a 3-0 lead off starter Townshend Kurth. Adrian Mendoza tripled home Matt Friess for a 4-0 lead.
Great Bend’s Chance Perry singled home Jesus Bujanda and Riley Smith. Alex Schremmer singled home Colin Hall and Perry for a 4-4 tie after two wild innings.
A fourth-inning error opened the door for Dodge City’s three-run inning. Wyatt Childress singled home Keanin Camacho. Cody Ibarra singled home Omar Don Juan and Childress for a 7-4 lead.
A Dodge City ignited Great Bend’s six-run fourth inning. Colin Hall singled home Joey Soupiset. Haberman’s triple to centerfield scored Smith, Cal Kaiser and Alex Schremmer for an 8-7 lead. Jesus Bujanda singled home Haberman and Koy Brack for a 10-7 lead.
Reliever Hall restored order with three shutout innings with five strikeouts by spotting an effective curveball.
Schremmer scored on a sixth-inning error and Eddie Bujanda singled in Haberman for a 12-7 lead. Eddie Bujanda scored on a fielding error.
