Great Bend’s Kaylin Wahmeier earned medalist honors and the Panthers clinched the Western Athletic Conference bowling title a week early with a 13-0 sweep of Liberal Thursday at Walnut Bowl.

Wahlmeier maintained the top scoring average in the WAC with medalist honors (611, 171-192-248). She was followed by runner-up Zoey Mayberry (574, 192-191-191) and third-place finisher Emilee Nelson (533 (126-173-234). Aliyah Fryberger chipped in a 231 game. Sahara Rhiza carded a 200 game.

The Panther girls fired a school record four-game 843 Baker series with sparkling games of 216, 199, 217 and 211. The Panthers rolled a team total of 3,175 pins.

“We stayed positive. I see improvement in Bakers,” Wahlmeier said. “When our girls are all cheering, we thought right here, right now. I’m happy with the way I’m bowling and the way everyone is picking everybody up.”

The Panther girls have won every WAC dual meet all season.

“Our Baker scores were outstanding – over 800,” said Great Bend coach David Feldbauer. “The girls all bowled well in different games. We were 80 pins higher in regular games. Shooting a 3,175 score will win about every meet.”

PANTHER BOYS – Medalist Kamron Stude earned medalist honors (559, 213-187-159), five pins ahead of teammate Jalen Daniels (554, 193-184-177) and third-place Caleb McNett (533, 191-159-183). Garden City has clinched the WAC boys title.

“We’ve got a shot at second place in the WAC with a meet next week at Hays,” Feldbauer said. “The guys have had a good year.”
