Panther girls stay unbeaten

HUTCHINSON – Great Bend’s girls remained unbeaten with a 2-3-4 finish to capture first place in Thursday’s Buhler Cross Country Invitational. The Panthers (28) outdistanced runner-up Southeast of Saline (38) at Prairie Hills Middle School.

Panther runner-up Emilia Diaz (20:59.0) placed behind SE of Saline champion Jentrie Alderson (19:36.3) along with top 10 Panther medalists third place Marissa Boone (21;25.3); fourth place Diane Alvarez (21:41.3) and eighth-place Emma Loomis (22:24.5). Darcy Feist, 11th (23:14.1) and 21st-place August Siefkes (23:59.7) rounded out the Panther varsity lineup.

Great Bend’s Kaiden Esfeld finished third (16:35.5) behind past Southeast of Saline’s 3A state champion Dylan Sprecker (16:14.8) and Buhler’s 4A third-place medalist Tanner Lindahl (16:25.4).

Larned splits baseball twin bill LARNED — Larned's baseball team rallied for a 12-1 second game victory over Lyons. The Lions won the opener. LYONS 5, LARNED 4 (G1)— Lyons' Zayn Zambo scored the game-winning run on Deacon Showalter's fifth-inning groundout. Lyons reliever Anthony "Ace" Ventura retired seven consecutive batters to earn a save. Logan Isaac scored on Ethan's Luck sacrifice fly in a 3-run third inning. Blake Smith and Ventura scored on Porter Anderson's single. David Meyers scored on a fifth-inning error for a 4-2 lead before Zambo scored a fifth run.
