WICHITA – The defending 5-1A state champion Great Bend girls bowling team opened the 2024 season with a championship at Saturday’s Wichita Carroll Baker Tournament.
Great Bend posted a 12-game Baker total of 2,163 pins, 63 ahead of runner-up Wichita Northwest. The Panthers' final 2-game score of 427 picked up 57 pins on Wichita Northwest.
State 5-1A champion medalist Kaylin Wahlmeier, Zoey Mayberry, Emilee Nelson, Paige Heine, Brooklynn Mayberry and Rionna Rodriguez competed for the Panthers. The Panthers posted 2-game scores of 335, 346, 330, 416, 309 and 416.
Great Bend's boys finished 21st with a score of 2,029, a 169 average. The Panthers posted 2-game scores of 375, 385, 365, 291, 271 and 342.
Daegan Miller, Quinten Miller, Brantley Vsetecka, Keaton Wahlmeier and Josh Manning competed for the Panther boys. Junction City (2,680) earned first ahead of runner-up Wichita Heights (2,497).
The Panthers will play Liberal at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Walnut Bowl. The Panthers head to Dodge City Thursday.
