MCPHERSON — Great Bend’s Cole Streck shot 3-over-par 73 (38-35) to earn fourth medalist honors at Thursday’s McPherson Invitational at Turkey Creek Golf Course. Streck placed 35th (85) at the 5A state golf meet last year at Kansas City.
“Cole Streck played very well, earning fourth-place individually,” said Great Bend coach Travis McAtee.
The Panthers placed fifth (340), also counting scores by 20th-place Brantley Baldwin (84), 27th-place Scott Heilman (86) and 48th-place Cal Dunekack (97).
“We started on the back nine holes, and struggled getting off to a good start,” McAtee said. “I was encouraged by Brantley Baldwin’s comeback from a back nine 47 to a front nine 37. Scott Heilman shot 40 on the front nine after a 46 back nine. The potential is there to be a good golf team. We’ve got things to iron out before Garden City April 13.”
Hays High (311) placed first ahead of runner-up Salina Sacred Heart (317), a four-time 2A state champion. Hays High;s Josh Norris (71) earned medalist honors and Sacred Heart’s Tate Herrenbruck (72) and Arkansas City’s Trent Sutherland (72).
