Panther soccer wins 5-0 Great Bend freshman sensation Xali Arias converted three goals to spark the Panthers past Junction City 5-0 on Senior Soccer Night. Jillian Reimer scored on a penalty kick and Teegan Guerra also scored at Cavanaugh Field. The Panthers led 1-0 at halftime. "We struggled to make chances but Xali broke through after a few chances," said Panther soccer coach Noel Rodriguez. "We had a first half that was on our attacking side of the field most of the time." The Panthers adjusted offensively after halftime for four goals. "We told them to not rush and make it look pretty," Rodriguez said. "And they came out in the second half and did that. They had some great plays that resulted in more goals. Xali had a "Hat Trick" and an assist. Jill Reimer slotted away a PK! Teegan Guerra scored on an assist from Xali. Genesis Leyva assisted Xali. Natalia Rodriguez assisted Xali." The Panthers featured seniors Jillian Reimer, Isabel Castruita and Laura Alvarez. "We enjoyed a great turnout for Senior Night," Rodriguez said. "Isabel, Laura and Jill got to see some minutes last night. We will miss those seniors next year, .a great group of gals." The Panthers (5-8-3, 0-7-1 WAC) will play at Andover Central (11-5) Tuesday in 5A regional action next week. Great Bend broke a 39-game WAC losing streak with a 1-1 tie against Dodge City Tuesday.
