MCPHERSON – Great Bend’s Paige Thexton and Alyssa McCauley hit home runs to spark the Panthers past Junction City 13-5 to salvage a split of Friday’s softball twin bill. McPherson downed Great Bend 12-2 in Friday’s opener. Great Bend (8-10) plays at Hays-Thomas More Prep May 9.
PANTHERS 13, JUNCTION CITY 3 (G2) – Thexton capped a 3-RBI game with three hits. Ava Kaiser keyed a 3-RBI game with a 2-run double. Denver Ringo and DeShawna Bryant also drove home runs. Ringo and Analiz Rivas scored on a fifthinning error. Ringo, Kaiser, Halle Post and Bryant each delivered two hits.
Pitcher McCauley (3-1) struck out three batters in seven solid innings.
MCPHERSON 12, PANTHERS 2 (G1) – McPherson’s Addison Chapman keyed a runrule victory with a 3-run homer in the third inning and a 3-run double that ended the game on the 10run rule. S Salmans drove home two runs.
Katherine Mazouch singled home Thexton and Mazouch scored on an error in the third inning. Thexton delivered two hits.
