VALLEY CENTER — Great Bend’s doubles team Alexis Folkerts-Abbie Moyers lost 7-5, 6-3 to Valley Center’s Kara Harden-Alexa Bedecarrartz to miss qualifying for the 5A state tennis tournament.

Folkerts-Moyers (11-12) defeated the Wichita Heights tandem of Brooklyn Conrady-Eliska Vagnerova 6-4, 6-1 to get within one victory of qualifying for the 5A state tournament. Newton’s Quinn Rhodes-Kenzi Gillespie defeated Folkerts-Moyers 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.

Singles players Remi Ingram (8-13) and Anna Popp (15-21) lost first-round matches to be eliminated. McPherson’s Perrin Schneider defeated Ingram, 6-3, 6-1. Andover Central’s April Page defeated Popp, 6-1, 6-1. 

Great Bend’s doubles Katherine Snapp-Jessica Nieto (3-2) lost 6-4, 6-4 in a hard-fought match against McPherson’s 5A state qualifiers Ashley Achilles-Sydney Achilles. 

Valley’s Center Jessica Sharp defated Andover’s Sarah Sinclair 6-1, 6-0 for the singles title.

McPherson’s Taylor Bruce-Ceanna Allen plays Andover Central’s Samara Haenggi-Jazzy Williams for the doubles championship scheduled Monday afternoon at Wichita’s Riverside Tennis Center .
