EL DORADO — The unranked 5A Great Bend Panthers made a statement to be state-ranked by beating Chanute 25-20, 22-25, 25-14 in the championship match and win the El Dorado volleyball tournament by sweeping five matches.
Against Chanute, Macy Nachtigal led the defense with 19 digs, 12 serves received and 14 serves. Kya Behr contributed 20 assists, 17 digs, 13 serves, 8 winners.
Sadie Spray had 14 digs, 14 assists and 4 blocks. Paige Thexton contributed 14 serves received and 13 digs. Lauryn Davis had 11 serves received and 17 serves. Makenzie Premer delivered 9 winners and Denver Ringo 8. Kara Feist had 12 serves and 4 blocks.
The Panthers defeated Wichita West 25-19, 25-9, Augusta 25-18, 26-24; Chanute 10-25, 25-23, 25-21 and Buhler 31-29, 25-18 to qualify for the championship match against Chanute.
The Panthers (24-3) defeated state-ranked 5A Emporia and 2A Hillsboro Thursday.
