Panthers drop dual 42-39

MANHATTAN – Great Bend’s state-ranked wrestlers finished 3-0 and the Panthers swept seven of 12 contested matches. But 6A No. 3 ranked Manhattan edged past the Panthers 42-39, thanks to two forfeit wins.

The Panthers’ No. 3 ranked Kadin Spragis (106), No. 5 ranked Avery Wolf (113) and No. 4 ranked Wyatt Weber (132) all won by pins. Spragis (40-14) placed fifth last year. Wolf (24-17) was a state qualifier. Weber (34-16) placed fifth and sixth the past two years.  The Panthers won five of the six lightest weighs as Skyler McMullen (120), Cooper Liles (126) also earned pins. Scott Heilman (26-10) earned a pin for the Panthers’ seventh win of the night.

The night’s biggest surprise was Great Bend’s Gage Reimer edging Manhattan’s highly-regarded Jaxson Vikander 7-6 at 170 pounds.
