Great Bend's third-place 200-yard medley relay earned a state qualifying time (2:06.84) at Friday's competitive Great Bend Swimming Invitational. The Panthers quartet of Emilee Hall, Ellyson Somers, Ruth Williams and Zoe Jerke improved by 4 seconds to surpass the state qualifying standard. 

It was a perfect tune-up for the May 13 Western Athletic Conference swimming meet.

"The girls swam great today," said Great Bend coach Kari Carper. "We qualified another relay, our medley relay, making the state time by two seconds."

The Manhattan Indians (436) placed first and Great Bend (365) finished runner-up.

Runner-up finishers for the Panthers were the 400 freestyle relay (4:16.01) with Hall, Somers, Jerke and Aubrey Snapp competing; Aubrey Snapp, 100 freestyle (1:01.31); and Jerke, 200 freestyle (2:23.54).

Third-place finishers were Hall,  50 freestyle (27.87) and Somers, 200 IM (2:38.93).
