LARNED – A suffocating Pratt defense forced 31 Larned turnovers as the Greenbacks cruised to a 41-15 Central Kansas League basketball victory Saturday.
Pratt led 11-2 after one quarter and 23-5 at halftime.
“Before the game we talked about cutting down on our turnovers, making good passes and not letting Pratt speed us up,” said Larned coach Ashley Crosby. “We didn’t accomplish any of those goals. On top of that, we didn’t shoot it very well. We can be better than that.”
Pratt missed 10 consecutive field goals in the third quarter. The teams battled to a 6-6 tie for a 29-11 lead after three quarters.
Larned was held to single digit scoring in every quarter which led to the 41-15 final margin. The Indians managed 32 field goal attempts due to 31 turnovers and good rebounding by Pratt.
Larned converted 7 of 32 field goals for 21%. They made 0 of 4 free throws. Julie Tapia and Eden Evers each scored four points and Kendra Grandy chipped in three.
Pratt converted 16 of 51 shots for 31%. The Greenbacks (5-4, 1-1 CKL) were led by Lexi Walker with nine points and Danielle Staats and Gabby Gatlin with six apiece.
The Indians (0-9, 0-2 CKL) compete in the Barton County Hilltop Classic.
