Area athletes stand out at state meet

WICHITA — Larned High School’s Carrie Kellie won a Class 4A state title in the triple jump (36-9), and also finished third in the long jump (17 feet, 3 1/4 inches) on Friday at the 6-1A state track and field championships.
Kellie dedicated her jumps to Trevor Greathouse, a classmate and friend who passed away earlier this week.
Hoisington’s Austin Stout qualified for Saturday’s 3A finals in both the 110 and 300 hurdles, while teammates Anthony Broeder finished sixth in the shot put (47-7 1/2) and Brandon Ball finished 10th in the pole vault (13-0).
The Lady Cardinals’ 4x400 relay team — Savannah Rose, Abbi Demel, Jordin Greer and Lexi Sanders — qualified for finals.
Otis-Bison’s Janel Tammen finished third in the 1A discus, and sixth in both the shot put and the javelin.
