St. John’s Tara Nelson scored 15 points as the Tigers battled hard in a 54-37 basketball loss to No. 1 1A South Central High School.
The Tigers (11-6) battled tough defensively against the high-scoring Timberwolves. Paige Doran scored 10 points and Torre Fisher added nine points. Jackie Rios dished out four assists and Torre Fisher had three assists.
South Central (18-0) was paced by Bri Rutherford with 20 points and Rylee Alexander with 14 points.

No. 1 state-ranked Central Plains roared past Ness City 66-43 in Tuesday’s showdown for the Central Prairie League basketball title. Brett Liebl left no doubt with a huge 27-point night with Alex Barton chipping in 17 points.
The Oilers (18-0, 6-0 CPL) outscored the Eagles 23-13 in the first quarter and 21-10 in the third quarter. Scheopner led the Eagles (14-4, 5-2 CPL) with 16 points.

The No. 1 state-ranked Central Plains girls roared past Ness City 94-14, the identical score the Oilers beat the Eagles when the teams played Jan. 23.
Oiler Emily Ryan scored 40 points and Avery Hurley (14) and Rachel Lamatsch (11) scored in double figures. The Oilers (18-0, 6-0 CPL) have won 76 consecutive basketball games. The Oilers led 53-3 at halftime.
