Ellinwood 44
CLAFLIN — Ellinwood High School’s boys’ basketball team had the points leader in the game, but Central Plains was able to pull away for the win in the first round of at Class 2A sub-state tournament on Tuesday night.
The No. 2 seeded-Oilers took off in the first quarter, leading the No. 7 seed Eagles 22-9 after eight minutes.
Ellinwood’s Marc Waite led scorers with 23 points, making five 3-pointers in the second half.
Braedan Crites led the Oilers with 16 points, followed by Konnor Hickel and Michael Ryan, who scored 12 points each.

St. John-Hudson 63,
Pratt-Skyline 19
ST. JOHN — Up 20 points after one quarter and ahead 32 points heading into halftime, St. John’s boys crushed Pratt-Skyline in their 2A sub-state tournament first-round game.
The Tigers had 10 players score in the rout, led by Dean Wade’s 17 points all scored in the first half.
Jorge Calleros added 14 points for St. John, which improves to 21-0 on the season.

GIRLS

Macksville 52, Fairfield 51
LANGDON — Macksville turned its game up just in time on Tuesday night.
The Lady Mustangs rebounded with an 18-12 fourth quarter to top Fairfield and advance to a semifinal game against No. 2-seeded Pretty Prairie.
Sophie Filbert scored a team-leading 18 points.
Tara Bunker added 15 points, and Melisa Espino scored 12 points.

Ellsworth 47, Hoisington 45
ELLSWORTH — Hoisington entered the 3A sub-state tournament as the No. 6 seed.
The Lady Cardinals, who finished the season at 11-10, faced No. 3-seeded Ellsworth, which is now 14-7.
Hoisington fell just shy of the upset, which would have sent the back home as the Lady Cardinals are hosting a sub-state tournament at the Hoisington Activity Center.

BOYS

Minneapolis 75, Hoisington 44
MINNEAPOLIS — The Hoisington boys, who entered the 3A sub-state tournament as the No. 7 seed, ended its season on Tuesday night.
No. 2-seeded Minneapolis routed the Cardinals in the opening-round game.
Hoisington finishes the year with a 7-14 record.

GIRLS

Ellinwood 55,
Medicine Lodge 19
ELLINWOOD — Ellinwood made short work of Medicine Lodge to advance to today’s 2A sub-state semifinal match.
The No. 2-seeded Lady Eagles shredded No. 7 seed Medicine Lodge.
Ellinwood advances to face Coldwater-South Central, the No. 3 seed that edged No. 6-seeded Pratt-Skyline 45-44, in a semifinal game at 7:30 p.m. at Greensburg.
