LARNED – All-stater Grant Raleigh scored 19 first-quarter points to spark defending league champion Hesston past Larned 60-32 in Friday’s Central Kansas League game.
Hesston (8-1, 4-0 CKL) led 23-9 after one quarter and 37-18 at halftime. Tyler McCartney added 13 points.
Larned (7-3, 2-2 CKL) was paced by Isiah Perez and Ty O’Neill with eight points apiece. Larned plays Wichita West in the St. John Mid-Winter Classic.
“Raleigh’s a very good player, the best player we’ve seen since St. John,” said Larned coach Don Zimmerman. “They’re a great team that plays team basketball and great defense.”
The Indians have scored 32 points in their last two games.
“We didn’t practice well all week and we didn’t play with any heart,” Zimmerman said. “We’ve been flat. We have to figure that out. We had a nice stretch in the third quarter, but you’ve got to play like that for four quarters.”

LARNED – Defending champion Hesston led 20-2 after one quarter and roared past Larned’s girls 62-19 in a Central Kansas League basketball game.
Hesston (9-0, 4-0 CKL) forced 10 first-quarter turnovers that led to easy baskets. Unruh scored 13 points and Jessanna Nebel added 12 points.
Larned (1-9, 0-4 CKL) was paced by Allyson Aldrich with five points and Kelsey Parr added four points.

HOISINGTON – Hoisington beat Nickerson 63-51 for its first Central Kansas League basketball victory, keyed by 17 points from Christopher Wright.
Hoisington (3-6, 1-3 CKL) led 51-47 when Wright scored a basket and Seth Owen followed with two free throws for a 55-47 lead.
Owen (15) and Steffan Dolechek (14) also scored in double figures. Nickerson (2-8, 0-4 CKL) was led by Braden Stewart with 12 points, Jordan Coleman (11) and Ben Berridge (10). The Panthers cut a 12-point deficit to four points.

HOISINGTON – Rylie Koester scored 20 first-half points and 27 overall to spark Hoisington’s girls past winless Nickerson 52-26 in a Central Kansas League basketball game.
Hoisington (3-6, 1-3 CKL) outscored Nickerson 23-2 in the second quarter behind effective fullcourt defense. Schneider added 10 points.
Nickerson (0-10, 0-4 CKL) was lost 39 consecutive games. Alison Evans scored eight points.
