Quivira Heights 52, Wilson 20
BUSHTON — The Quivira Heights High School football team took care of business against Wilson on Friday night, winning big.
Going into the game, both teams were at 2-1 behind Hope in their district. The Thunderbirds are now 3-1 and No. 2 in their district.
Quivira Heights outrushed the Dragons 283 yards to 192, but it was the Thunderbirds’ passing game that beat Wilson early in the game.
Quivira Heights scored three touchdowns in the first half, two in the air. Quarterback Gunner Phelan completed 12 of his 19 passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns in the game. Phelan also carried the ball 14 times for 116 yards and a touchdown.
Nick Schepmann added 97 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
The Thunderbirds did lose two fumbles, but so did Wilson, which also saw two interceptions fall into the hands of the Quivira Heights defense.

Otis-Bison 63, Pawnee Heights 14
OTIS — Otis-Bison (8-0) completed a perfect regular season record with its conquest of the Pawnee Heights Tigers.
Otis-Bison scored 43 points in the first quarter alone on its way to almost doubling the Tigers’ total offensive yards in eight fewer plays.
Mike Hlavaty led the Cougars in rushing for the second week in a row, with 94 yards and one touchdown on three carries. However, Otis-Bison had five different players with rushing touchdowns against Pawnee Heights.
Cougars quarterback Trevor Keller completed all six of his passing attempts for 88 yards and two touchdowns and Dylan Wissman completed one of two passes for a 14-yard score.
For the Tigers, quarterback Sam Spence led the way with 99 rushing yards and one touchdown on 14 carries while completing five of 12 passes for 52 yards and one touchdown.

Victoria 60, Claflin 14
VICTORIA — Claflin’s Benn Kirmer rushed for 126 yards and one touchdown in the Wildcats’ loss to Victoria.
The Wildcats couldn’t handle the Knights’ ground game, which ran up 396 yards in the game.
Claflin rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns. The Wildcats’ third touchdown was scored by Kirmer on a kick return.
Wildcats quarterback Kevin Klug completed all eight of his passes for 47 yards.
LaCrosse 52, Ellinwood 6
LA CROSSE — Ellinwood amassed 163 yards of total offense in its loss to unbeaten La Crosse (8-0).
Ellinwood’s Patrick Ringering completed two of his six passes for 20 yards while throwing three interceptions. Kyle Corbett, who rushed for 36 yards, completed his only pass for 44 yards.
The Eagles were led in rushing by Marcus Brown, who carried the ball 15 times for 59 yards. Dalton Garrett scored the Eagles’ lone touchdown and added 22 rushing yards.
Ulysses 69, Larned 0
ULYSSES — The Larned Indians were shut out by district foe Ulysses.
Larned’s offense was led by Danton Viegra, who rushed for 44 yards on eight carries.
The Tigers held Larned’s top rusher, sophomore Brady Keith, to minus-8 yards and quarterback Jamil Shoemaker to minus-5 yards.
Sterling 36, Hoisington 6
HOISINGTON — Hoisington drops to 1-1 in its district after losing to Sterling.
Sterling improves to 1-1, which includes a loss against Ellsworth, the Cardinals’ next opponent. Ellsworth is 2-0 in the district.
