Area volleyball teams qualify for state tournaments

Larned High School’s volleyball team earned a berth in the Class 4A Division-II state tournament.
Hoisington, which is No. 9 in 3A in the latest Kansas Volleyball Association poll, won a trip to a state tournament, as well.
The Lady Indians won two matches at the Smoky Valley 4A D-II sub-state to advance to the state tourney.
Larned defeated Russell 25-20, 25-16 to advance to the final match against Smoky Valley.
The final went to three sets, but the Lady Indians won 25-21, 23-25, 25-22.
Larned (21-17 overall) is the No. 8 seed of the 4A D-II tournament, which will be held at Salina’s Bicentennial Center on Friday and Saturday.
Larned plays No. 1-seeded Burlington at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
Larned challenges No. 4 Goodland at 6:30 p.m., and No. 5 Frontenac at 7:30.
Hoisington had to win three matches to advance to the 3A state tournament, which will be at the White Auditorium in Emporia on Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Cardinals beat Thomas More Prep Marian 25-19, 25-9 in the quarterfinal round at the Cimarron sub-state competition.
Hoisington defeated Phillipsburg 25-23, 32-30 to advance to the finals, where it beat Holcomb 25-20, 25-20.
On Friday, Hoisington, the No. 4 seed, faces No. 5-seeded Cheney at 10:30 a.m.
The Lady Cardinals challenge No. 8 Seneca-Nemaha Valley at 11:30 a.m. before meeting No. 1 Mound City-Jayhawk Linn at 1:30 p.m.
