LYONS — Ellinwood High School took third place at the Lyons Invitational Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.
The Lady Eagles went 2-1 in the best-of-three pool play matches, defeating Ellsworth, 25-23, 26-24, and Quivira Heights, 25-19, 23-25, 25-23. Ellinwood lost to host Lyons in its final pool-play match, 22-25, 25-16, 27-25.
Ellinwood lost to Pratt in the semifinals and went on to beat Southeast of Saline, 25-16, 25-20, in the third-place match.
Quivira Heights finished in second place of the consolation bracket.

Hoisington misses finals in tourney

HOISINGTON — The Hoisington High School volleyball team failed to make it out of pool play Saturday in a tournament the Lady Cardinals hosted.
Hoisington began the day losing a best-of-three match to Smith Center in three games.
Hoisington’s second game saw the Lady Cardinals beat Otis-Bison, 25-3, 25-2, but their day ended when they lost to Phillipsburg, 25-11, 25-23.
Phillipsburg went on to beat Smith Center in the final match. St. John took third, beating Beloit in the third place match.
