Day two of the NJCAA Women’s Golf Championship was won by the weather. The entire round was washed out, forcing 36 holes of play on Wednesday to get caught back up.
It was a 36 holes of golf that again proved very good Peerada Piddon for Barton. The freshman hovered at just over par during both rounds, moving her up to 7th place after 54 holes of golf.
With Piddon pacing the way for the Cougars, Barton is currently in 13th place as a team but well within striking distance of 11th place with one day of golf left.
Piddon shot a 2-over 74 in the morning round then came back with a 3-over 75. This after shooting a 75 in the opening round for a 54-hole total of 8-over 224. That is good for seventh by herself. It is just one stroke out of fifth place where a pair of golfers are tied 223.
Ji Sun Kang of host school Daytona State is leading after a sizzling 9-under par day Wednesday. Kang shot a 5-under in the morning and 4-under in the afternoon for a 54-hole total of 9-under 207.That is 12 strokes better than the rest of the field.
Roanne Tomlinson of McLennan (Texas) and Katie Veale of Daytona are tied for second at 219 while Nichada Satasuk of Seminole State (Fla) is fourth at 220.
While Kang is running away with the individual title, Daytona State is doing the same with the team title. Daytona State has shot rounds of 291-292-293 for an 876 – 25 strokes ahead of second place Seminole State at 901. McLennan is third at 909.
The Cougars slid from 11th to 13th after the 36-hole day. That was mostly due to the improved play of the teams behind them than anything else. After shooting a 367 to start the tournament, Barton shot a 354 and 367 Wednesday but slid back two spots.
Barton has shot 1088 with Wallace State (Ala) just ahead at 1083 and Pima (Ariz) in 11th at 1082. Des Moines Area (Iowa) is well ahead in 10th at 1047.
Leeseo Park is the only Cougar other than Piddon to break 100 in all three rounds but Park has posted a pair of scores in the 90s. After opening with a 92, Park came back to shot an 87 then finished the day with a 97 for a 54-hole total of 276, tied for 65th.
McKenzie Fabrizius and Bailey Gage are close to each other with just less than 300 strokes. Fabrizius is tied for 90th with a 102-96-97 – 285 while Gage is 93rd at 99-97-101 – 297. Daleen Turner is 103rd overall with a 101-115-98 – 314.
