Cardinal baseball splits with Halstead

HALSTEAD — Hoisington’s baseball team rallied with a six-run inning for an 11-9 split of a doubleheader with Halstead. The Dragons won the nightcap 11-1.  
Hoisington scored six runs in the sixth for an 8-6 lead. Halstead rallied with three sixth-inning runs. The Cardinals scored in the seventh for a 9-9 tie and added two runs in the eighth.
Cardinals Hunter Hanzlick and Jacob Warnken each drove in two runs. Trevor Thomas drove in three runs with two hits. Gage Hardtarfer had three hits and two RBIs. Dylan Ratzlaff delivered three hits.
Hanzlick pitched two innings of relief for the win, striking out five. Thomas took the loss for Halstead in relief.
HALSTEAD 11, HOISINGTON 1 — Halstead pitcher Chase VanSteenburg struck out 15 batters with a two-hitter. Cardinal Kaleb Blazek was touched for 11 runs with four strikeouts.
Halstead jumped to a 7-0 run after two innings. Halstead ended the game with a four-run fifth inning. Dalton Kraus and Layke Heimerman each had two hits and two RBIs. Gage Hardtarfer drove in two runs and Trevor Thomas had two hits and an RBI.
Hoisington (2-2, 2-2 CKL) plays at home Tuesday against Hillsboro. Halstead (1-3, 1-1 CKL) plays at Pratt Tuesday.
