Cardinal baseball sweeps Halstead

HOISINGTON – Hoisington’s baseball team took advantage of 19 walks and four hit-batters to roll past Halstead 13-5 and 10-6 in Friday’s Central Kansas League doubleheader. The Cardinals (5-8) play at Hesston (4-10) Tuesday.

HOISINGTON 13, HALSTEAD 5 (G1) – Hoisington’s Isaac Prosser drove in three runs and Braxton Donovan and Holt Hanzlick added a pair of RBIs. The Cardinals drew six walks and had two batters hit by pitchers.

Halstead’s Brian Casey delivered a two-run double and Cole Herman added an RBI single for a 3-0 lead. Donovan scored on an error and Hanzlick’s sacrifice fly made it 3-2.

Carter Hiebert’s RBI single handed the Dragons a 4-2 lead. The Cardinals scored six runs in the second inning. Myles Menges drilled an RBI single, Menges and Specht scored on errors, Trey Byers scored on a balk and Avery Brewer and Prosser scored on groundouts for an 8-4 lead.

Donovan’s RBI single gave the Cardinals a 10-4 lead. Kaden Kraus’s RBI gave the Dragons their final run. Prosser scored on a groundout and Menges and Specht scored on a fifth-inning error.

HOISINGTON 10, HALSTEAD 6 (G2) – The Cardinals benefited from 13 walks and two hit-batters to produce 10 runs. Cole Steinert drove in three runs.

Halstead’s Kaden Kraus scored on a first-inning error. Jerred Bieberle and Donovan scored on wild pitches and Specht scored on a bases-loaded walk for a 3-1 lead. Bieberle scored on a second-inning groundout and Donovan scored on a passed ball for a 5-1 lead. Byers scored on a groundout, Fuentes stole home and Bieberle scored on a passed ball for an 8-1 lead. Steinert’s sacrifice fly made it 9-1 after four innings.

Halstead’s Dalton Kraus drove in two fifth-inning runs. Bryant Odendahl added an RBI single and Noah Mendez scored on a passed ball for a 9-5 score.

Steinert’s sacrifice fly gave the Cardinals their 10th run. David Schulte scored on a groundout for Halstead’s final run.
