HILLSBORO — The rain-plagued Hoisington baseball team swept Hillsboro 14-0 and 24-5 in a doubleheader played April 7.
CARDINALS 14, TROJANS 0 — Collin Schlochtermeier struck out five batters and spun a five-hit shutout in a 14-0 victory over Hillsboro. Kyle Lang doubled and drove in four runs.
Lang’s two-run double that scored Braxton Donovan and Ethan Hubbard keyed a five-run second inning. Hubbard’s single scored Myles Menges and Alex Schremmer and Jeremy Briet forced home runs on a walk and groundball for a 5-0 lead.
Schlochtermeier and Hubbard scored on errors for a 7-0 lead. Hanzlick’s fly ball scored Jerred Bieberle and Breit’s double scored Kyle Lang for a 9-0 lead.
Hunter Hanzlick’s two-run double keyed a five-run sixth inning. Lang, Menges and Schlochtermeier drove home runs. Schlochermeier and Hubbard each stole two bases.
CARDINALS 24, TROJANS 5 — Braxton Donovan drove home four runs and Nate Larkin and Jeremy Breit drove in three runs in a 24-5 rout of Hillsboro. The Cardinals forced home 12 runs on bases-loaded walks and a hit batter.
Larkin’s two-run single that scored Boxberger and Byers was the Cardinals’ first RBI with a base hit in an 11-run sixth inning. Avery Brewer and Hunter Hanzlick also delivered run-scoring singles in the sixth inning.
Alex Schremmer pitched three and two-thirds innings and stole five bases.
