PHILLIPSBURG — The Hoisington High School wrestling team topped the Phillipsburg tournament on Saturday.
The Cardinals finished with 143 points, beating second-place Abilene, which finished with 128.5.
Hoisington, which is ranked No. 2 in Class 3-1A in the latest Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association poll, had three first-place finishers.
Brandon Ball, the 2012 3-1A state champion in the 120-pound weight class, won all three of his matches in the 126 weight class.
Chance Demel (145) and Cayton Janousek (220) also swept three matches.
“I was so happy for the team to bring home such a big win, but it was how they were able to do it that was so overwhelming for me,” Hoisington head coach Dan Schmidt said.
Hoisington hosts the Mid-Central Activities Association tournament on Thursday, starting at 4:30 p.m.
