Cards qualify seven for state tournament

HOISINGTON — Hoisington High School’s wrestling team qualified seven athletes for the Class 3-1A state tournament, which will be held on Friday and Saturday at Fort Hays State University.
The tournament starts at 9 a.m.
The Cardinals, who finished in second place as a team, will have Landon Harmon (120 pounds), Brandon Ball (132), Jonathan Ball (138), Austin McHenry (170), Avery Urban (195), Kagan Blackwell (220) and Chance Boor (285) representing them at the tournament.
Brandon Ball, who already has two 3-1A state titles under his belt, qualified with a regional title. He is like the No. 1 seed as he is the top-ranked wrestler in his weight class on the latest Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association poll.
Brandon Ball’s record heading into the tournament is 40-0 his season.
Blackwell is also coming off a regional title performance, entering the tournament with a record of 38-7.
Jonathan Ball and Urban made it to their respective championship matches, but finished as runners-up.
Jonathan is 38-2 this season, and Urban is 37-4.
Harmon and McHenry finished in third place at the regional tournament.
McHenry is 37-7 this season, and Harmon is 23-16.
Boor finished in fourth place, taking a 23-13 record to the state tournament.
