BELOIT — Osborne’s Cullen Grabast played receiver, defensive back and returned kicks in the East’s 28-18 victory over the West in the Kansas Eight-Man 1 All-Star Football Game. The West leads the all-time series 10-7.
Central Plains Oiler linemen James Radenberg and Trey Schulte played for the West team.
Spearville’s Luke Heskamp capped a 55-yard opening drive with a 2-yard TD run.
The East’s Chandler Struthers of St. Paul scored on a 8-yard run and Logan-Palco quarterback Josh Van Laeys threw to Grabast for a 2-point conversion for an 8-6 lead.
Grabast got a great read on a pass from St. Francis quarterback Quinton Cravens for a 33-yard interception return for a 14-6 lead, sparking three scores in the final 2:02 of the first half.
St. Francis’ Brock Waters scored on a 7-yard TD to cap a 65-yard drive with 32 seconds left in the half. Van Laeys hit Cody Jiminez of Central-Burden on a seam route for a 53-yard TD for 18 seconds left in the half for a 20-12 lead.
Van Laeys scored on a 5-yard run to cap a 59-yard scoring drive to start the second half for a 26-12 lead.
The East scored two more points when Little River’s Clay Zeller was flagged for intentional grounding for a safety and a 28-12 lead.
Cravens hit Heskamp on a 24-yard TD pass with 1:40 left. A successful onside kickoff ended on downs.
