CLAFLIN – Central Plains outscored state-ranked Otis-Bison 30-6 after halftime for a 36-12 Central Prairie League football victory.
Oiler Alex Hickel scored three second-half touchdowns on runs of 3, 14 and 48 yards and gained 159 yards. Anthony Oberle and Devin Ryan scored rushing touchdowns for the Oilers (2-1, 2-1 CPL), who gained 299 yards rushing. The Oilers started the second half with a 52-yard scoring drive. Dalton Beck had 12 tackles and Philip Donecker had nine tackles.
“That’s a good team. It’s a good win for us,” said Central Plains coach Chris Steiner. “The kids played well and stuck to the game plan.”
Otis-Bison (2-1, 2-1 CPL) was paced by RB Blake Bahr with 117 yards rushing and 24- and 49-yard touchdowns. The Cougars rushed for 211 yards. Blake Bahr and Bevan Gradig intercepted passes.
The Oilers won the battle at both lines of scrimmage.
“Offensive and defensive lines they got after us. That was the difference,” said Travis Starr, Otis-Bison coach. “They physically outplayed us.”
