The Western Athletic Conference tournament marks the end of the regular season for the Great Bend High School girls’ tennis team.
Monday was the final test before the Class 5A regional tournament on Saturday in Salina.
For one last time, the Great Bend doubles duo of Morgan Francis and Macy Moyers went undefeated at a tournament in the regular season.
The doubles teams led Great Bend to finish second in the tournament behind Garden City. The Lady Panthers tied with Hays with 10 points.
Garden City had 12 points.
“It was pretty exciting because it came down to the final match of the day,” GBHS head coach Shannon Schartz said. “It was Addison Westhoff  (Great Bend’s No. 2 singles player) against Garden City.
“We had a 6-4 lead, but we ended up losing 8-6.”
It was a good day for Lady Panthers doubles teams as the No. 2 doubles team of Taylor  Huslig and Carly Boyd also went undefeated to win the WAC title.
Francis was named WAC Player of the Year for the second time in her high school career.
“We’re excited for Morgan,” Schartz said. “She’s a great player, and she’s have a great senior year. We couldn’t be happier for her.”
Westhoff finished 1-3 overall for fourth place in the No. 2 singles competition.
At No. 1 singles, Rebecca Dawson also placed fourth, going 1-3.
“It was a good day,” Schartz said. “Our doubles teams played well. Our singles played much better than they did over the weekend.
“We’re happy with how we did.”
