CLAFLIN — The Central Plains High School girls’ tennis team won their home quadrangular on Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Oilers finished with 25 points, topping second-place Hoisington, which scored 20 points.
“Our goal is to improve every practice and every match,” Central Plains head coach Gary Bittner said. “I think we were successful. I was real proud of my No. 1 singles player (Ryanne Hekele). She went 2-1. Our doubles teams have been solid all year. They continued to play well, and our No. 2 singles player Kaylyn Oberle got some good experience.”
Central Plains was led by its doubles teams as the No. 1 duo, Karli Beck and Breanna Schartz, and the No. 2 combination, Keeley Hipp and Janae Ryan, each went 3-0 on the day.
The Lady Oilers combined to finish 9-3 at the quadrangular. Central Plains’ McKenna Hammeke played as a No. 2 singles player, going 2-1, as Trego did not have an entry in the division.
The Lady Cardinals finished 8-4 overall, sweeping both singles divisions.
Besa Bwalya, Hoisington’s No. 1 singles player, went 3-0. She swept the competition without dropping a set.
Lady Cardinals’ No. 2 singles player, Deiah Curtis, also went 3-0, only losing one set.
“We played well today,” Hoisington head coach Kerry Mooney said. “Everyone’s game has looked good. The scores didn’t show it, but what I saw on the court showed me that we’ve improved.”
Central Plains travels to WaKeeney on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m.
Hoisington is also back in action on Saturday for a tournament at Trego, starting at 9 a.m.
