SALINA— A long pass by Kaily Griffith to fellow sophomore Melanie Garcia set up an early goal but Great Bend would not be able to produce enough offensive push the rest of the way as the Panthers fell to Salina South, 3-1 in the second of a back-to-back Tuesday night.

“We set up plenty of opportunities to score the rest of the game but just couldn’t get the ball where we wanted it,” said Panther coach Gus Prieto. “We distributed and controlled the ball perhaps as good as we have all season but we still need to work on finding our opponents’ weak spots.”

Salina South scored roughly five minutes after Garcia’s goal before finding the net a second time to take a 2-1 lead into the half. The Cougars added an insurance goal early in the second period before a shut down by both offenses led to the 3-1 victory for the home team.

The Panthers drop to 3-11-1 on the season and will host Junction City at 4 p.m. Thursday as Great Bend celebrates senior day at Cavanaugh Fields.
