HOISINGTON — Tyson Martinez scored 21 points to spark the Ellinwood boys past Victoria 56-45 in the consolation semifinals of the Cardinal Winter Jam Thursday night.
Ellinwood trailed by six points in the first quarter. Eric Jones gave the Eagles momentum with a buzzer-beater off the glass, sparking a 10-0 run into the second quarter to give Ellinwood an 18-14 lead.
Victoria fought back to take a 22-21 lead with 2:11 remaining but five straight points gave Ellinwood a 26-22 halftime lead.
Ellinwood outscored the Knights 17-9 in the third period for an 11-point victory.
The Eagles (4-6) play Russell (2-8) for fifth place at 1:15 p.m. Saturday. Victoria (0-11) faces LaCrosse (4-7) at 1:15 p.m. Saturday for seventh place.
