LITTLE RIVER — Ellinwood’s baseball team competed favorably in a 12-6 loss Friday before getting swept 16-0 against state-ranked Little River (10-3). Ellinwood (1-9) plays at Canton-Galva Tuesday.
LITTLE RIVER 12, ELLINWOOD 6 (G1) — Ellinwood’s Luke Wondra led the offense with a double and two runs driven in. Reliever Kyler Doll pitched three shutout innings. Third baseman Tyler Knop and second baseman Doll teamed for a fourth-inning double play. Centerfielder David Hammeke threw out Jayden Garrison for a fifth-inning double play.
Hammeke’s single scored Doll and Hammeke scored on Woodson Corbett’s groundout for a 2-0 lead.
Little River answered with a six-run first inning. Levi Swenson hit a two-run single and Graham Stephens and Keith Briscoe added RBI singles.
Wondra’s second-inning double scored Gage Hosman for a 6-3 score. The Redskins added second-inning RBIs by Kody Hawkinson and Brayden Sears for an 8-3 lead.
Tim Hamby’s bases-loaded walk forced home the Eagles’ fourth run and Tyler Knop scored on a double play for a 8-5 score. Peyton Harvey’s two-run single gave the Redskins a 10-5 lead. Wondra’s seventh-inning single scored Cole Kubik for the Eagles’ final run.
LITTLE RIVER 16, ELLINWOOD 0 (G2) — Little River’s Brayden Sears drove home three runs and Harvey, Hawkinson and Bryce Sears each drove home two runs. The Redskins scored 12 runs in the first inning.
Ellinwood’s Knop singled for the Eagles’ lone hit.
