Don’t be surprised if the Great Bend High School-Hays boys basketball game tonight goes down to the wire.
After all, the last time these two teams played, that’s exactly what happened.
On Jan. 11, Great Bend’s Greg Hildebrand knocked down a tiebreaking 3-pointer at the buzzer, giving the Panthers a 41-38 victory.
Great Bend enters tonight’s Western Athletic Conference and regular-season finale with an 11-8 record, including 4-3 in the conference. The Panthers have already wrapped up second place behind Dodge City in the WAC standings as Dodge has now gone undefeated winning the crown in back-to-back seasons.
“We’re looking at it as another game where we have to kind of take care of business to take care of ourselves,” Great Bend head coach Chris Battin said. “We’re not trying to make too much of it, but it is an important game and one we have to be ready to play in.”
