HESSTON – The Central Plains tennis team finished first and second in doubles and qualified two singles entries to win a tiebreaker with Hesston at the 3A Hesston regional after the teams tied with 20 points.

The Oilers will compete May 11-12 at the 3A state tournament at Wichita’s Riverside Park.

Oilers’ top-seed Paxton Hammeke-Devin Ryan (30-3) downed teammates Kade Beck-Brett Liebl 3-4, 7-6 (7-4) in the finals. Beck and Liebl stunned Hesston’s CKL runner-up Jorge Morales-Jeb Carlson 6-1, 6-4 in the semifinals.

Central Plains’ Lawson Oeser (9-2) finished fourth and Central Plains Oiler J.J. Heredia (16-10) placed fifth.

Ellsworth’s Joey Oberle (26-4) defeated Hesston’s Logan Gamble (22-8), 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 for first place in singles.
