The Great Bend High School girls' tennis doubles team of Morgan Francis and Macy Moyers skated through Day 1 of the two-day Class 5A State Tournament.
With two wins on Friday, Francis and Moyers competed in the semifinal match on Saturday.
The duo lost, but salvaged the day to finish in third place at the state tournament.
"We were quite capable of winning that match," GBHS head coach Shannon Schartz said. "We lost the tiebreaker in the first game, and we just couldn't get things going after that.
"We did rally, though. They won the third-place match."
On Friday, the two tennis player, who were regional and Western Athletic Conference champions, received a first-round bye.
They were the No. 2 seed behind Arkansas City's Ally Burr and Makenna Gonzales, the same duo that defeated Francis and Moyers in the semifinal round in the 2013 state tournament.
The Ark City duo enters with a record of 36-1.
Great Bend's combo has a record of 35-0.
After the Lady Panthers' bye in the first round, they defeated Madelyn Comeau and Lauren Strohs of Blue Valley West 6-0, 6-0.
Senior Francis and junior Moyers remained flawless in the third round, beating a team from Emporia 6-0, 6-0 to advance to the semifinals.
Against a team from Bishop Carroll, Great Bend slipped, losing 7-6 (7-3), 6-0.
Moyers and Francis missed out on their rematch against Ark City's duo, which would've come in the championship match.
"I think they were disappointed," Schartz said. "They wanted to meet Ark City in the finals, but they still did better than they did last year. They bounced back and finished third."
Instead of Ark City, it was Laura Dicus and Jodie Ladner of Topeka West, a regional champion, awaiting them in the third-place match.
Great Bend's duo won 6-0, 6-1.
The Lady Panthers finished the season 38-1.
That is a high school record, beating a record of 29-1 in 1985 as the highest win percentage in school history.
Francis and Moyers had a win percentage of .974. The 1985 record was .967.
It also tied the record for the most wins in a season, tying a record set in 2008.
