COFFEYVILLE – Great Bend tailback Gage Fritz scored three touchdowns and rushed for 212 yards to spark the Panthers past Coffeyville-Field Kindley 41-18 in Friday’s non-league football opener.
Fritz scored on runs of 6, 16 and 25 yards. Quarterback Koy Brack added two rushing touchdowns and 121 yards passing. The Panthers rushed for 296 yards behind center Kaden Schroeder, guards Trevor Fehr and Payton Doll and tackles Aaron Clark and Andrew Wettengel.
Safety Max Jerke made the game’s biggest defensive play with a fumble recovery at the Panthers’ 3-yard line. Linebacker Kody Stapleton returned a fumble 60 yards for a game-clinching touchdown. Safety Dalton Miller intercepted pass and the Panthers recovered three fumbles.
