spt th gbhssoccer

Keely Ireland scored on an assist by Alondra Garcia but it was the only offensive momentum Great Bend could muster as the Panthers fell to visiting Garden City Tuesday in double overtime, 2-1.

Ireland’s goal came at the 1:15 mark in the first half off of Garcia’s long pass.

Garden City tied the game in the 64th minute, second half, on an unassisted score by Amber Miller and eventually sent the game to overtime.  After a dormant first OT, the Buffs reached pay dirt in the second extra slot as Megan Martinez scored on another unassisted shot and put the visitors up 2-1.

The loss drops Great Bend to 2-4-1 on the season and 1-3-1 in WAC play. Garden City remains undefeated in the WAC improving to 4-0 and 7-2 on the season.

The Panthers will hold the first of back-to-backs on Thursday, April 23 as they travel to Hays to face Thomas More Prep. Great Bend will then return to Cavanaugh Fields on Friday, April 24 to host Manhattan.
