GARDEN CITY — Great Bend combined solid pitching and defense for a stunning doubleheader sweep of Garden City 3-1 and 4-3. The defending Western Athletic Conference champions rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the nightcap.

PANTHERS 3, BUFFALOES 1 — Crafty righthander Bryce Lytle worked out of trouble and pitched a complete game, exceeding the 105-pitch count on the game’s final batter.
The Panthers scored two first-inning runs. Lytle reached base on a error in centerfield. Payton Mauler’s triple brought home Lytle and Mauler scored when the right fielder misplayed the ball for a 2-0 lead.
Catcher Koy Brack shut down the Buffaloes’ running game by throwing out Griff Brunson to end the first inning.
The Buffaloes loaded the bases in the fourth inning, but Andrew Kreutzer popped out to catcher Brack with two out to end the threat. Brunson’s sacrifice fly scored Sammy Guevera in the fifth inning.
Great Bend threatened in the seventh inning when Koy Brack, Jesus Bujanda and Brice Kaiser singled. Brack scored a valuable insurance run on a balk when pitcher Carson Schteeter did not throw a pickoff move to first base.

PANTHERS 4, BUFFALOES 3 — Lefthander Logan Perry threw four shutout innings after a shaky start for a hard-fought victory. Just like Lytle, Perry exceeded the 105-pitch limt on the final batter of the game.
After trailing 3-0, the Panthers rallied with a four-run fifth inning with two out. Jesus Bujanda doubled and Konner Ireland walked. The crafty Ireland worked a steal and Bujanda alertly slid safely into home. Bryce Lytle, Mauler and Bradyen Smith followed with RBI singles for a 4-3 lead.
Garden City led 1-0 on Raymond Urrutia’s single that scored Brunson. Easton Lager’s single scored Isaac Mujica and Kreutzer scored on a passed ball for a 3-0 lead after three innings.
