HAYS — It wasn’t a victory for the Great Bend High School girls’ cross-country team, but head coach Todd Kaiser said he was happy with the effort he saw.
The Lady Panthers finished third at the Hays Invitational on Thursday afternoon. The boys finished fifth.
“I was pleased with how the girls competed as a team,” Kaiser said. “They raced good races. There were a lot of (personal-best times).
“With the experience that we’ve returned on the boys side, we should be competing better than we are.”
Chon Chavez was the top finisher for Great Bend. He took second place with a time of 17 minutes, seven seconds.
Kaitlynn Tuey led the girls with a ninth-place finish at 15:34.90.
