LIBERAL — They played a total of eight innings.
In two games, the Great Bend High School softball team scored 41 runs to blow away Liberal on the road on Tuesday evening.
Enacting the run rule in both games, the Lady Panthers won 18-0 in five innings in Game 1, and 23-0 in three innings in Game 2.
Great Bend improves to 6-0 on the season and starts the Western Athletic Conference schedule 2-0.
“It was a great night for us,” GBHS head coach Carrie Minton said. “It is a great start to the WAC, as well. We knew we’d see a different kind of pitching then we had against Larned and Hoisington.
“Liberal is still developing some pitchers.”
Still, the Lady Panthers started slow in the first game, scoring two runs in the first inning and only leading 5-0 heading into the top of the fourth inning.
Great Bend scored nine in the fourth and four in the fifth.
The Lady Panther had seven hits, six walks and three hit batters. Liberal had seven errors in the first game.
Kelsie Doll led batters, going 2-for-5 with three runs scored.
Kacee Kasselman had a three-run triple, McKenna Mauler had an RBI and a double, going 2-for-3 and Elizabeth Barber drove in a run with a single.
Braylin Bretz threw the first of two perfect games by a Great Bend pitcher.
Bretz faced 15 batters, striking out 14.

In Game 2, Great Bend scored six run in both the first and third innings, with 11 runs in the second.
